Best Buy is bringing Meta Lab @ Best Buy to more than 50 U.S. stores, starting with the first locations this June and more rolling out through the summer and holiday season.
For VR buyers, the practical change is simple: more people will be able to try Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S in a guided retail setting instead of buying from a spec sheet. Best Buy says the 900-square-foot spaces will include interactive demos, personalized fittings, smart mirrors for Meta AI glasses, and dedicated Meta Sales Specialists.
Why It Matters For Quest Buyers
Comfort, fit, passthrough quality, and controller feel are hard to judge online. A short demo will not replace a full review, but it can answer questions that matter before checkout:
- Whether the headset feels balanced on your face.
- How mixed reality passthrough looks in a normal store environment.
- Whether the app launcher, controllers, and hand tracking feel approachable.
- How Quest 3 compares with the cheaper Quest 3S in person.
The rollout also matters because Quest 3 is no longer sitting at its old $499 street price. Meta’s own product page showed the Quest 3 512GB at $599.99 when checked for this article, so an in-person demo is more useful now that the higher-end Quest costs more.
Where The Rollout Starts
Best Buy listed San Carlos, California; Roseville, Minnesota; Woodland Park, New Jersey; Greenville, South Carolina; and Columbus, Ohio among the first summer locations. The company says additional locations will follow through the rest of the year.
The spaces are not Quest-only. Best Buy says Meta Lab will also feature Ray-Ban Meta, Meta Ray-Ban Display, and Oakley Meta glasses. That mix tells buyers something about Meta’s retail strategy: Quest is still part of the lineup, but it now shares the showroom with AI glasses.
What To Watch
The useful buyer question is whether these labs make VR easier to evaluate, or whether they mostly serve Meta’s glasses push. Quest demos should help first-time buyers most if staff can show headset fit, prescription-lens considerations, mixed reality, fitness, and game comfort settings instead of only running a short scripted demo.
If you are comparing headsets, start with the current Quest 3 buyer page and treat the store demo as a comfort and fit check before buying.
